VSAT applications for the Oil & Gas Industry in Libya
For quite a few years, Libya is approaching the Western economic system, which has led in 2003 to lifting the 11-year-old UN economic and military embargo on Libya. The oil and gas industry is by far Libya's most important business sector, with oil exports accounting for some 90 percent of the country's export earnings. The chances for a positive development of the Libyan economy continue to be good, which is witnessed by the considerable rise in interest of foreign companies and investors. Main economic trade partners are Germany and Italy.
Many parts of the country wait still to be explored, and there is hope for large undiscovered oil and gas reserves. Due to the previous embargo, however, the infrastructure, including oil and gas exploration, needs heavy maintenance and modernization.
Since the end of the embargo, atrexx has begun satisfying the corporate communication needs of companies offering specialized services for the Libyan oil and gas industry. One center of atrexx' activities lies in Marsa El Brega, southwest of Libya's second largest city Benghazi. Marsa El Brega is the gateway to the oil fields in the desert and the main oil refining and petrochemical center in Libya.
