PanAmSat 1R @ 45° WestPanAmSat's PAS-1R Atlantic Ocean Region spacecraft, one of the world's largest, most powerful commercial satellites ever launched, employs 72 transponders to offer expanded and enhanced video and data broadcasting as well as broadband Internet services throughout the Americas, the Caribbean, Europe and Africa.PAS-1R is a Boeing 702 model spacecraft with an advanced communications payload consisting of 36 C-band and 36 Ku-band transponders, each supplying 36 MHz of bandwidth. The spacecraft launched from Arianespace's Guiana Space Center in Kourou, French Guiana aboard an Ariane 5 rocket on November 15, 2000. PAS-1R's deployment was our 17th Ariane launch and the first voyage using the Ariane 5 rocket.
