atrexx offers continuation of service to 'stranded' African customers
14 Jan 2010 | Company offers switchover to alternative iDirect iNFINITY service with no need for further investment
atrexx is offering African end-users access to satellite communications after their iDirect iNFINITI service was discontinued. Users in Chad, Mauritania, Sahara, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Niger, Mali, Liberia, Central Libya, Burkina Faso, Nigeria and parts of Sudan, were affected when their service on the new Intelsat-14 – former Pas1R - satellite was switched off January, 12. As a result of the discontinuation, homes and business have found themselves without precious communication links. This could lead to potential loss of revenue and obvious frustration at the interruption of service. The end-users have been offered services on the Telstar-11N satellite. However, services from this spacecraft are either not available in the affected African countries or will not work without further investment in hardware, which would prove costly. In addition, the implementation of new antenna equipment and its alignment are complex and can often only be carried out by a qualified installer who would have to travel through the desert to reach the customer.
